Eyes are an important part of your health. So it is important to take proper care of eyes. There are many things you can do to keep them healthy and make sure you are seeing your best. Follow these simple steps for maintaining healthy eyes well into your golden years.

First you have to change your eating habit. Protecting your eyes starts with the food on your plate. You’ve probably heard that carrots and other orange-colored fruits and vegetables promote eye health and protect vision and it’s true.  Studies have shown that antioxidants and nutrients that are linked to a lower risk of common eye conditions include lutein, omega-3 fatty acids, and vitamins C and E3. So you have to eat green, leafy vegetables such as spinach, kale, and collards

Salmon, tuna, and other oily fish,eggs, nuts, beans, and other non-meat protein sources

Oranges and other citrus fruits or juices etc. By regularly eating these foods that are rich in protective nutrients and antioxidants you can help maintain good eye health and potentially prevent some troubling eye conditions. Eating a well-balanced diet also helps you maintain a healthy weight.

Smoking is as bad for your eyes as it is for the rest of your body.Smoking makes you more likely to get cataracts, optic nerve damage, and macular degeneration. If you currently smoke, engage in a smoking cessation program to quit.Two servings of a caffeinated beverage daily are good for protecting against dry eyes but keep in mind that more than two servings can deplete your tear film and dry out your eyes.


Give Your Eyes a Break from the Computer Screen. Staring at a computer screen for too long can causeNeck, back, and shoulderpain,Blurry vision, Trouble focusing at a distance, Eyestrain, Headaches etc. so If you work in front of a computer screen all day, use the 20-20-20 rule to let your eyes rest. Every 20 minutes, look 20 feet away or more for at least 20 seconds. It helps break the eyes’ constant strain of focusing from doing close work. Otherwise, make sure your glasses or contact lens prescription is up-to-date and adequate for computer use. Position your computer so that your eyes are level with the top of the monitor. Choose a comfortable, supportive chair. Position it so that your feet are flat on the floor.

To avoid the risk of infection, always wash your hands thoroughly before putting in or taking out your contact lenses & also wash your hands before touching eyes.

It’s important to protect your eyes from the environment. The sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays can also be harmful to your eyes. In fact, a lifetime of UV light exposure can increase your risk of cataracts and macular degeneration. Protect your eyes as you would your skin by wearing sunglasses with 100 percent AVA and AVB protection.Practice eye safety by using protective eyewear while playing sports or working with hazardous materials. This will help to protect and shield your eyes. Everyone, even young children, should get their eyes examined regularly. Eye care should begin at an early age, and should be part of your normal health routine throughout your lifetime.
